The ability to meet basic needs, maintain stable housing, and build financial security can shape nearly every part of a person’s life. But legal and systemic barriers can make that stability harder to achieve.

As our 2026 COLTAF Grantee Spotlight Series continues, we’re turning our attention to recipients of COLTAF’s Discretionary Grants and the many ways their work advances access to justice across Colorado.

Today, we’re highlighting two organizations working to address barriers that can make it harder for Coloradans to build a secure future: the Colorado Center on Law and Policy and the Colorado Poverty Law Project.

Colorado Center on Law and Policy

The Colorado Center on Law and Policy (CCLP) is an antipoverty organization dedicated to advancing economic equity across Colorado. CCLP supports Coloradans through research, community partnerships, and public education focused on healthcare access, economic stability, and family wellbeing. 

By gathering and sharing stories from Coloradans navigating complex systems and financial challenges, CCLP helps bring greater visibility to the barriers many families face and the resources that can help communities thrive.

Colorado Poverty Law Project

For someone at risk of losing their home, access to legal help can be the difference between remaining safely housed and experiencing homelessness.

The Colorado Poverty Law Project (CPLP) works to prevent homelessness through legal representation, education, and advocacy. The organization connects low-income Coloradans with free legal services to fight evictions and housing injustice.

CPLP’s work includes eviction legal defense and legal clinics, as well as initiatives focused on fair housing and mobile home communities. Together, these efforts help address immediate housing crises and the larger barriers that can make stable housing harder to maintain.

Addressing Immediate Needs and Building Long-Term Stability

CCLP and CPLP address different dimensions of economic insecurity, but their work shares an important goal: removing barriers that can make it harder for Coloradans to achieve stability. Their work demonstrates the many roles access-to-justice organizations can play in helping Coloradans achieve greater stability.

CCLP and CPLP are recipients of COLTAF’s 2026 Discretionary Grants, which support efforts to expand access to justice across Colorado. This year, COLTAF awarded a total of $1.247 million in Discretionary Grants to 10 organizations working to address legal needs and barriers to justice in communities across the state.
