When people face a civil legal crisis, having an attorney can make all the difference. Whether it’s preventing an unlawful eviction, helping a survivor of violence find safety, or protecting the rights of an immigrant child, legal representation can change the course of someone’s life.
As part of our 2026 COLTAF Grantee Spotlight Series, we’re highlighting organizations receiving COLTAF grants and the important work they do to expand access to justice across Colorado. Today, we’re featuring two organizations whose work helps ensure more people across Colorado have access to high-quality civil legal representation.
Colorado Legal Services
As Colorado’s statewide nonprofit legal aid program, Colorado Legal Services provides free civil legal assistance to low-income individuals and seniors through a network of offices serving communities across the state. Its attorneys and advocates help clients facing issues including housing instability, family law matters, consumer protection, public benefits, services for crime victims, and many other civil legal challenges.

COLTAF’s Pro Bono Grant supports the organization’s efforts to engage volunteer attorneys in expanding access to civil legal representation. This funding is separate from COLTAF’s annual General Support grant for Colorado Legal Services. By partnering with volunteer attorneys, Colorado Legal Services is able to reach more people and strengthen access to justice in communities across the state.
Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network
The Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network (RMIAN) works to ensure justice for low-income immigrants, including adults in immigration detention and immigrant children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or violence. Through direct legal representation, legal education, and advocacy, RMIAN works to protect due process while promoting a more humane immigration system.
Volunteer attorneys are central to RMIAN’s work. By training and supporting pro bono lawyers to represent individuals navigating complex immigration proceedings, the organization helps ensure more people have access to legal representation when they need it most.
A Stronger Network for Access to Justice
Colorado Legal Services and RMIAN have distinct missions, but they share a common goal: ensuring that people facing serious civil legal issues have access to knowledgeable legal representation, regardless of their income. Through partnerships with volunteer attorneys, both organizations extend the reach of civil legal aid and help strengthen Colorado’s broader access-to-justice network.
This is the second installment in COLTAF’s 2026 Grantee Spotlight Series. Stay tuned as we continue highlighting the organizations working to expand access to justice across Colorado.
Access to justice is a collaborative effort. COLTAF is proud to partner with these outstanding organizations and grateful to our Prime Partner banks, lawyers, LLPs, and everyone who supports COLTAF’s mission.
Together, we are strengthening access to justice for all Coloradans.
