Expanding access to justice takes more than individual attorneys taking individual cases. It also takes strong partnerships across the legal community—bringing together lawyers, law firms, legal aid organizations, courts, bar associations, and others to identify needs and build solutions.

In the third installment of our 2026 COLTAF Grantee Spotlight Series, we’re highlighting two organizations helping strengthen that network across Colorado: the Colorado Lawyers Committee and the Colorado Access to Justice Commission. Through collaboration, advocacy, and support for pro bono efforts statewide, both organizations help create more opportunities for Colorado’s legal community to advance access to justice.

Colorado Lawyers Committee

The Colorado Lawyers Committee is a nonpartisan consortium of Colorado law firms dedicated to creating and increasing opportunities for children and underserved communities through pro bono legal advocacy, negotiation, and litigation.

Its work focuses primarily on significant public policy issues and systemic change, allowing attorneys from different firms, practice areas, and levels of experience to work collaboratively on issues affecting communities across Colorado.

This collaborative model harnesses the skills and resources of Colorado’s private bar to tackle complex challenges. Attorneys can contribute their expertise alongside colleagues from other firms, while newer lawyers have opportunities to gain hands-on experience working with more experienced attorneys.

Colorado Access to Justice Commission

The Colorado Access to Justice Commission works to expand access, quality, and fairness in Colorado’s civil justice system. The Commission brings together leaders from across the courts, legal aid, law schools, government, and other sectors to help coordinate efforts to address access-to-justice challenges statewide.

That work includes promoting and supporting pro bono programming and legal clinics across Colorado, advocating for policy changes, increasing support for legal aid, and advancing technological solutions that can make the civil justice system more accessible. By serving as a statewide convener, the Commission helps organizations and institutions work strategically across sectors and communities.

Building Access to Justice Together

The Colorado Lawyers Committee and Colorado Access to Justice Commission demonstrate the power of collaboration in expanding access to justice. By bringing together attorneys, organizations, and institutions from across Colorado, they help strengthen the systems and partnerships that allow pro bono service to reach further.

With this spotlight, we’ve now introduced all 11 organizations receiving 2026 COLTAF Pro Bono Grants. From community-based programs connecting neighbors with volunteer attorneys to organizations expanding civil legal representation, each plays a distinct role in helping more people access legal help. COLTAF awarded a total of $863,500 in Pro Bono Grants this year.
