Apply for funding
COLTAF funds programs that help Coloradans access the legal system and protect their rights. COLTAF’s only regular source of revenue is the interest earned on COLTAF accounts, thus the funds available for grants vary, sometimes dramatically, from year to year. For that reason, COLTAF’s competitive grant program is suspended from time to time, in order to preserve resources for COLTAF’s core grantees.
Generally, 80% of our grant funds go to Colorado Legal Services, the state’s primary civil legal aid provider. The remaining 20% of grant funds are awarded as competitive grants through our discretionary and pro bono grant programs. Prospective grantees may request general support or funding for a specific process. Grant applications are due on April 1st of each year.
COLTAF’s funding priorities include:
- Assisting in providing legal services to the seniors and low-income Coloradans
- Improving the delivery of legal services
- Promoting knowledge and awareness of the law in the community
- Improving the administration of justice
The 2026 Grant application period is now open through April 1, 2026.
If you are considering applying for funding, the first step is to contact COLTAF staff. Please contact Jessie Clark-Daugherty, Associate Director, if you have any questions or need any additional information..
