COLTAF’s 2026 grantees will be announced soon, but as we prepare to share the next group of organizations receiving support, we want to take a moment to recognize some of the incredible work being done by our current grantees across Colorado.
Every day, COLTAF-funded organizations are helping Coloradans navigate life-changing legal challenges, protect their rights, and build safer, more stable futures for themselves and their families.
Here are just a few recent examples of the impact our grantees are making:
The Colorado Access to Justice Commission recently launched Pro Bono CO, a statewide portal designed to connect legal professionals with pro bono opportunities throughout Colorado. This online clearinghouse marks an important step forward in expanding volunteer legal services by making it easier for attorneys to find meaningful opportunities to serve. By streamlining connections between legal professionals and organizations in need, Pro Bono CO will help increase access to legal assistance for individuals and families across the state.
Colorado Legal Services, the state’s primary civil legal aid provider and COLTAF’s largest grantee partner, helped Abigail Colón reclaim her identity and obtain the documents she needs to access employment, health insurance, and legal marriage. Abigail’s parents never registered her birth, leaving her without a birth certificate and locked out of crucial aspects of daily life. With support from Colorado Legal Services, Abigail successfully challenged existing state procedures and expects to finally receive her birth certificate soon.
Justice and Mercy Legal Aid Center (JAMLAC) recently shared the story of a client whose long-awaited path to citizenship was suddenly disrupted by a family emergency overseas that left her unable to return to the United States. With legal support from JAMLAC, she was ultimately able to navigate the complex immigration process and safely return home, preserving the life and future she had spent years building in Colorado. The organization continues to provide critical legal assistance for immigrants, survivors, and vulnerable families facing life-altering legal challenges.
The Colorado Center on Law and Policy (CCLP) continues to support Coloradans through research, community partnerships, and public education focused on healthcare access, economic stability, and family wellbeing. By gathering and sharing stories from Coloradans navigating complex systems and financial challenges, the organization helps bring greater visibility to the barriers many families face and the resources that can help communities thrive.
Together, these stories demonstrate the many ways access to justice changes lives: from helping individuals obtain critical identity documents and navigate complex immigration challenges to expanding pro bono legal services and helping to ensure that more Coloradans can access the legal help they need during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
We are proud to support organizations doing this vital work in communities across Colorado, and we look forward to announcing our 2026 grantees soon.
